This gives me an idea. MAAST can hold a contest once a year for "Best LFS of (Fill in City)" Since the competion will be tough, they will have to do things like give aways and huge discounts. That way they can win our votes and be named "Best LFS of (Fill in City) ;)

Seriously though, My personal favorites are River City Aquatics and Aqua Tek. River City Aquatics' phone number is 512-219-7200. Im not sure of their address, but I could give you directions if you wanted. It is in NW Austin. Aqua Tek is listed in the Pet store listings http://www.maast.org/stores.php

Aqua Tek and Austin Aquariums are both in the store listing and are sponsors.

I don't think the idea of a contest is cool, we would basically be giving MAAST sponsorship to those stores, how would that work when there are three or four stores a city sponsoring us? We all know what the good strores are in our cities, and 'the best' is of course subjective. I haven't been to river city in austin but I do like Austin Aquariums as well, but I think Aquatek is better.

AA and Aquatek are both good. But I've really been super-impressed with Carlos and Randy at River City Aquatics. My mini-reef crashed and I turned my 20L into a cichlid tank until I move this summer, and they've really been helpful and had great advice. I'm new to cichlids and don't know a lot about what mixes/what doesn't and they last time I was there they turned me away from probably more than $20 in fish just because it wouldn't be right for what I already had in my tank. I ended up chatting with Randy for about 20 minutes and he taught me a lot (nice of him considering I showed up so close to closing). Also, their prices on tanks seem to be better than the other places in town.

That's kind of the way I feel about CB Pets, they aren't the largest store in the area, but they certainly know their stuff, I never see sick fish, they quarantine, and make sure you know what your getting. I would even bet Richard or Mark could ramble off the major inhabitants of my tank if asked. But honestly, the quarantine factor does a lot for me, It may cost a little more from time to time to shop there, but I know my risks are minimized. and I can't wait until the new setup is done, it looks like it is going to be awesome (they are replacing their coral tanks with 180s (i think they are 180's)

Yeah, Carlos & Randy are great. I'm on a first name basis with them, and they do know there stuff as well. There prices are the best in town, and they are always eager to help you out, whether you buy something during your visit or not. I wish I could say all the LFS in Austin where this great, but at least we have one! :)
WTG guys; keep up the great work! ;)

anyone know where River City is located?
Take 183N
Exit Anderson Mill
They are right behind a rental car place (Enterprise I think) and there is a gas station on the L of the rental place (Shell I think). They are in a small store front next to a performance shop in the LH corner. Easy to miss but not hard to find, if you pass the rental place park in the Shell station and walk 20' to get there.
Hope this helps.

Hands down aquatek is the best. The guys there are very very knowledgeable. Also- when compared to the other places have the best corals. I have an SPS tank and Austin aquariums keeps their sps under vho's. not very impressed. if you want a nice reef tank- check aquatek. 512 450 0182. their Freshwater selection is also great. its nice that they are all educated and not just speaking from their experience alone.
