I recently purchased a rock with zoa's, they were out at the store and were beautiful. Well when I got home I noticed they were not polyp's but encrusted. They are individual polyps, but are encrusted. Its wierd to explain. has anyone ever seen these, i will try to get pics of it.

How much do you want for that beautiful Turbinaria/ T. Patula? It needs medium to high light, and a decent water flow.

what Tim said.

(also, it's a stony coral, similar to plating turbinaria)
the encrusting form that you have is often referred to as encrusting pagoda coral.

Are you sure its not palythoa? Is it soft or stony? They are very similar to zoanthids but instead of polyps attached by runners they have an encrusting base (like green star polyps). Turbinaria will be a plate or encrusting coral with round or oval, raised, seperate corallites. The stony skeleton would have been obvious at the time of purchase because the polyps would have retracted.

I did some more research and found it to indeed be a Turbinaria Peltata, thanks Tim for the info.
