I'd like to get some opinions on the best way to go about this...
Finally defeated the Brooklynella that my clown had (yipee!!). He has been in the QT for almost 3 months now in lowered salinity with formalin drops. Was able to forgo the formalin about a week and a half ago as all signs of the protozoan had disappeared about two+ weeks ago. I would like to get him back into the main tank, but would like to get ya'lls opinion on which would be best:
1. Slowly raise the salinity in the QT to match the display.
2. Put him in a good sized bucket and drip aclimate him for a couple of days.
Or?
Thanks ;)

Fist off, congratulations on your fishes recovery. I would say, I see no reason why you couldnt use the Q tank as an acclimation container. The only difference between that and another container would be trace quantities of Formalin. As long as the water in the Q tank is within acceptable parameters, Id say go for it! >slowly<

Congrats Wendy!! I know you were worried about that fish and that you put a lot of time into getting it healthy again, I'm glad everything worked out :D

Carbon should take out any residual formalin.

Congrats Wendy, that sure took a looong time, its usually gone after a couple of weeks of treatment..like Gary said..carbon will clear that water up from any residues of formalin..I would say ...you could drip him after taking the formalin out of the water..you can drip him in a container for a few hours..to make sure he gets acclimated..thats how i would do it..anyways..good luck! :)

Since you are in no hurry, I'd stop topping off water in the QT tank, and when the salinity reaches the same as the display I'd move the fish over.

Thank you, everybody!! :D :D
Yes, I'd have to say I am relieved that he pulled through. It was tough for awhile there though. The growth got really huge in one spot on his left gill area with smaller growths on his fins. There seems to be some very slight damage to the flesh in the gill area, but you have to look really hard to see it - thankfully he never got a secondary infection.
Tim - I had thought about doing that, but since I get a lot of evaporation in that tank, I was worried that the change would be too quick and also that nitrates might also elevate?
Diego - Yes, it *did* take a long time! At first we were only dosing with formalin, but I think what finally did the trick was the lowered salinity ;) . It would seem to get better, and then he'd get more growths with just the formalin treatment. He never seemed to be stressed about being in QT though, and has consistantly been eating like a little pig the whole time.
I'm hoping he's not going to have any kind of relapse once he's back in the display. At least he has another happy little clown buddy in there already to show him the ropes. I'm planning to set up the 45G DAS tank we have sometime in the near future, and just make it into a nice clown condo - get a pretty RBTA...maybe a few zoo colonies...hot tub in the back...heheheh. :-D
