Fragging mushrooms

I know this is a silly question, but I am a newbie when it comes to fragging and am having problems. I have some giant green-striped shrooms that I need to frag and they are so slimy. I have natural long nails that are pretty thin and I cannot get them under the base. Can I simply get a razor blade and slice them at the base along the rock?

Yes you can or you can just cut along the edge of the mushroom as if triming your nails.

Seriously you can cut it off the rock if you want or you can just cut pieces off it. They will all re-grow.

You can just use a razor blade to cut it off the rock...try to get as close to the base as possible. When you divide the mushroom, make sure you get a section of the mouth in each frag & they should do just fine. You will probably have a higher rate of success with just slicing the 'shroom in half rather than in quarters, but if you want to try and slice it into four pieces, cut it like a pizza.

Pete is right. You can cut all the way around the 'shroom along the outside edge and the feller will be back to normal real soon. I did this on some elephant ears that I have and they were back to their original size in two months.

I thought I had seen an article about fragging them...must have been ricordia? Will another 'shroom grow where you cut it off the rock?

If there is a piece left behind yes. I have just ripped them off the rocks and they regenerate on the same rock and where I place them.

The mouth is required for ricordea ...

I have put them in a blender, it works. Lots of little shrooms and a few medium size ones. After a few months you have more than you can handle though.

I like shrooms, but if they arent kept in check ... the plague!!
