what are you guys feeding your mantis'? i just picked up a beutifull peacock from aquatek yesterday, they said they had been feeding ghost shrimp, but that doesn't seem like the best diet to me. i was considering ordering some bluelegs from reeftopia. i'm hoping to get him on shrimp pellets, but i'd like to keep a clean-up crew/food on the hoof in there to keep his dactyls in shape

My Mantis will eat just about anything I put in it's tank, I feed mysid, brine, silversides, small snails from my main tank, pods, seafood delight from H.E.B it is not picky. When I got it it was about 1/4 inch long now a year and a half later it is about an 1 1/2-- 2 inches long

My mantis eats just about anything that I give him...live or dead. I feed him frozen krill that is soaked in vitamins, also silversides, and frozen shrimp. I do feed him live foods quite often also, which includes ghost shrimp, hermits, snails, and peppermint shrimp. Once in a while I buy a small crawfish for him and watch the show! Mantis shrimps need to use their appendages or else they will eventually become usless and either fall off or the mantis will rip them off himself.

Live foods are great but I want to make sure that he gets a well rounded diet so thats why I supplement with frozen foods that is soaked in vitamins. I use skewer from HEB and move the food around the tank to get him exited. Someday I will try to feed by hand. :o

Heh, I seriously considered buying that same mantis from Aquatek on the 30th (the big one about 4.5", right?).

Don, what kind of mantis are you keeping in the 12g? One of the reasons I didn't buy the peacock is because they're big and need a larger tank from what I've read. I'd be curious to see where I can get a mantis that would flourish in a nano-size tank so I can keep it on my desk.

I have a peacock ( smasher ) in my 12g eclipse. It will get pretty big but I believe it will be plenty of room and the water quality will not be an issue since the water comes from my 240g!

thanks guys! i wasn't of the impression that they were finicky eaters, but doing research on RC and GR i had noticed that several people said that theirs didn't seem to care for hermits too much.

i still haven't seen her eat anything, and i don't notice any of her clean-up crew missing. it's been almost a week, should i be concerned? in the tank are left-handed hermits, nassarius, cerith, and some port-A snails, also ghost shrimp(a few of these may be missing), any suggestions?

If you have all that in the tank it will eat when it gets hungry. They can be timid and very cautious of their surroundings.
