A congratulations to Ross for being selected as the first TOTM in '05.
Nice job Ross !!!
I do very little maintenance to this tank. Other than toping off with tap water everyday, I dose B-Ionic and perform small monthly water changes. The tank is completely tap water and actually has no algae at all.
Not RO/DI, but tap?

Congratulations Ross! I am glad to see someone else has a successful system with tap water - thought I was the only one.

congrats, isnt 85 really high?...Ive read of some bad stuff happening at 86 degrees.....

Yeah, 85 is really high, and it sometimes got up to 86 but nothing ever happended. People say xenia closes up and doesnt do well at higher temps but this is not the case IME. But then again those stick on thermometers arent very accurate at all so it could have been a few degrees lower.

Who really knows ... do y'all calibrate the temp gages and double check them against something else everyday? Is the probe in your sump or in your tank as you are checking the water?
Who would have guessed we would be chemist, plumbers, electricians, fabricators, frugal and secretarys (with all the typing we do :-D ) not to mention hold a job !!! :D

well, I have a digital thermometer and a glass one...one checks the sump temp and one the tanks...my water has been at 80 during the day and 79 at night, steady..was just wondering if anything bad has ever happened at 85..ive always been very careful temperature wise

I have been too ... but according to the thermometers I have hit 86-88 and never had an ill effect!!! It wasnt for long, but it did get there ...

I really dont think temp is as big as some people make it out to be. IME its more important for the temp to be steady, not have big swings from night to day...i think that is where people start having problems.
