I stocked my nano...I went shopping in Brian's (Greenmako) tank. He was OK with everything I took until I asked him to frag the orange zoo's...then I got "the look"...notice, however that there are indeed orange zoos in my nano  :-D

Inhabitants: tiger pistol shrimp and matching high-fin goby. Crocea clam, snails, feather dusters. I'm adding 2 porcelain crabs next week. It's been up for about a month. I got the set up (and idea) from Felipe and Sarah.

2 red sea nano filters..one with sponge the other with carbon. A heater on a thermostat so that it wont drop below 74 at night.

Coral: SPS, rics, zoos, GSP.

That's a beautiful nano...Much props for that setup. What's your lighting by the way?

lighting was sold to me at Fin-Addicts, I think its a custom sealife hood, it has two 18Watt pc bulbs and a moon light. I put a cpu fan on it also to keep the heat down.

That's a beautiful setup. Is that enought light for a clam?

Way to go .... :-D

That tank looks awsome !!! The pictures are deceiving because the tank looks bigger than it is.

Small clams are too small to be photosynthetic until they are about two inches. When it reaches that point then it will be moved to our hundred gallon under MH's. Right now I'm feeding it phyto and am surprised at how fast it is growing!!

Side note: I just got back from Sarah and Felipes and the tank now sports a frag of frog spawn and some trumpets....it is definately full now  [quote]

Pete has seen it in person...and the pictures do look kind of deceiving

The box the tank came in doesn't have a size on it...we are guessing about 3/4 - 1 gallon. To better put it in perspective the tank is 13in long (including the decorative glass border..11in long of water) and 9in high (including the glass border).

ooh I just noticed that if you look at the first picture you can see a coffee mug on the shelf above the tank...that should help put it in perspective :D

Out of all the clam types, the Crocea needs the most intense lighting...MH's are recommended.

Holy Cow! That is a majorly funky picture. In the side view shot, it almost looks like it could be around 60 gallons. Everything is proportional to everything else, but everything is really tiny. The zoomed in photos are really deceptive. I thought the clam was about 4-5"

Yeah MH's are best for clams...I would not have got one if I didn't have access to them in the future when it will need them. Luckily right now all it feeds on is phyto and the nano is running at least 18watts/gallon. (Brians 100g under MH's runs 15watts/gallon...my lighting is better than his... ...I've insulted the man's lighting...I might need a place to stay for awhile (JK) :-D

I've always hated that watts/gallon measure. It should be something like watts/inch (height). Think of a 100 gallon tank that is 18" high, and another that is 48" high. There is no way the corals in those two tanks are getting the same amount of light.

Do you feed the clam separately, or does it just get the food that is already in the tank?

We feed the clam seperately and in the tank. We put it in a bowl with phyto for about twenty minutes and drop a couple of drops into the tank every now and then.

actually food is more important for clams than lighting - even when they get bigger. Pumping water requires a good amount of metabolic energy and requires more than what photosynthesis can provide. Live phyto products and Knop Korralvit F are two good foods. C. Mydas is taking great care of the clam - the growth rate is evidence of that. Very nice nano btw! :D

BTW - if you ever want to frag that red yuma, let me know! I'll pay money...or beer. Whichever you prefer! ;)

Thanks! I wish it was a yuma  but its a mushroom...

Actually I see what you're talking about now. At first glance it looked like a ric. yuma....
