Nice, hows come you didnt make the bottom round like the top? I think cosmeticly it would be more appealing, but thats just me, Im an a-hole when it comes to symetry. lol

i can, but i wanted the base to be more stable. Less prone to tipping. Not too late, I can still flush trim it like everyone else does, but I just wanted something that wont fall over!

It does have that artsy, new wave look to it, kinda retro, kinda spacey. Random in some ways yet non-confusing. The contoversy between the curves and the angles are most interesting and eye catching. I guess when you look at it like that, its acceptable... lmao...

Hey Alex, nice job! I agree with the stable base approach. The last thing I would want is several gallons of skimmer waste spilling across my floor.

To empty it, do you have to remove all those wingnuts? Is there a way to make a quciker release mechanism?

yeah you do have to remove the wingnuts. Im still working on a keyhole deal, so you can empty it a bit quicker. But. its not too bad, doesnt take very long, and its a LOT of skimmate!!!! 6" wide and 12" tall.

Building a waste container -> easy :D
Getting the wife to empty it -> difficult :o
Seeing her turn green emptying it -> Priceless :roll2:

curvilinear and rectalinear in harmonious juxtaposition, truly understated minimalist design. seriously though, why not just pour some tap water in there, swish it around abit, and then just pour all the yuckies out, rinse and repeat. works for me, but then my skimmer produces a pretty wet skimmate.

this is for those who are rather forgetful about empting their collection cup. It will shutoff your skimmer (if it is sealed) when its gets full.

i think you should decorate is like your cooler pail. This way the wife won't get upset if its laying around or might be prone to empty it. I'd probably go with a summer beach theme rather than winter hats and candycanes. :)

Is it just me, or is just emptying the skimmer when it starts to stink a bit to simple for some folks? The skimmer needs to be cleaned by the time it get to that point anyway.

I'm not taking away from Alex's project, but I just don't get the point.

plus, my wife doenst want the opportunity for it to stink, hence the carbon filtration. Also a must if you are running Ozone, you have to have your vapors filtered by carbon AND run carbon on the output of your skimmer.

Alex, I like the idea, very cool man. I can really see the benefit of this after having a skimmer go out of wack and in just a few minutes and having the skimmer put 10 gollons of saltwater on the floor.

Yep, that would definitely suck.
