Just wanted to give a tip to some of the new folks. If you are trying to fill up your new 200 gallon tank with 200 lbs of live rock, there is a cheaper way. Instead of 200 lbs of live rock you can get, say 50 lbs of live rock and 150 lbs of dead rock. After a few months, you will have 200 lbs of live rock. This can save you a boatload of money.

For example, here is an eBay source for good Hawaiian dead rock at about $1/lb shipped. http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&rd=1&item=4345563063

For a 200 gallon tank, this could save you around $500. That's enough to put quite a bit of life onto your dead rock, compared to how it would come in the mail.

This guy has his own site as well. www.hirocks.com sells lots of good base rock. I will be purchasing a lot from him soon.

i've bought 100lbs of Hirock. Good stuff. It's hard to tell what is what after almost 18 months...

I think my final price was about 88 cents per pound, WITH shipping.

They are raising the price. This rock is about 1.5 times heavier than Fiji also so take that into consideration when you figure out how much you need. I beleive RATBOY has some extra Fiji and cultured rock he may want to get rid of. He just set-up a tank and had a little extra. Unless it has all been sold off you can probably get a fair deal from him.

Yeah, if dead rock is $1.50 / lb shipped, it isn't such a great deal compared to live (uncured) rock @ $3.00 /b shipped.
