Anyone have one I can borrow to test my water with? I have been using a swing arm Hydrometer and it has to be reading wrong.....1.028. I just want to make sure before I go dropping the SG.

Thanks for the offer, but I wont be down that way anytime soon. Refractometer is on the Chrismas list. If I dont find one under the tree next weekend I will be ordering one for sure.

I can test your water. Refractometers are usually slightly higher than hydrometers. I will bet your like 1.030-1.031 Still OK but you can save a little salt and drop it into the 1.023-1.025 range.

Thanks Tim. Im not quite sure whats up with it. I tested it with my glass hydrometer also and it read .002 higher then the swing arm. The SG has always stayed stable. If it is off I probably mixed in too much salt on the last water change.
When do you think you can test it? Im going to try and sneek out of the house early in the morning to make it over to River City.

Here's an article on how to make a calibration standard for your hydrometer or refractometer. I'm still unsure if a refractometer is really all that much more accurate than a hydrometer. I'm thinking of going with a floating hydrometer. I know its accurate.

We're working on it. Hopefully in a month or so we're going to have a "library" with links sorted by topic. I've got two new volunteers for the Ed. Committee. If you or anyone else has some really good links to these type articles in your bookmarks, please email them to me. I'll post something on its own topic later asking for links.

My idea is to produce something long the lines of Ken's hard copy library that he had at AS&S, but in an online format.
