Ok guys.. I know some of you have super huge lighting setups that can be seen from outer space. Who has the most ridiculous lighting rig here?

Im only running 384 watts, but when I opened the door to my bedroom this afternoon it was like a near death experience. :-o

Reminds me of the time I went by Alex's house to pick up some macro - you could spot his house glowing purple from down the street. Now thats a MAN'S lighting rig!! :-D

i had 150 watts ok 10k mh and 2x32 watt pc actinic supplements on a minibow 7 at the beginning of the semester. 214 watts total for 7 gallons is about 30.5 watts per gallon :D

Dual 400W MH on a 45 breeder myself.

Alright Steve!! ..thats definitely overkill. Poor sand. :shock: :-D

See, this why I love this board. People arent afraid of burning down multiple city blocks with their reef lighting. "Reclaim the reefs!!" 8)

I have a total of 910 watts on my 100 gallon reef.
4 -vho = 140 watts ea.
2- mh 175 watt
right at 9 watts per gallon, everything seems to love it.

I run 780 watts on pc's on mine and don't think its enough. I really want to go MH.

I once had a tank that had 2,664 watts of lights!
Jim
P.S. that does not include the sump.

well my lighting is ridiculously LOW! :D

I have 520watts of pc's on my 240g mixed reef...obviously I can only keep softies and such but the tank runs at 80 deg with NO FAN or chiller...and my electric bill averages $210 for my 3300 sq ft house with 2 ac's. 8)

Steve, you about ready to get rid of that 150w settup yet? :-)

On my 75g (4ft long) tank, I run two 400watt halides and two 110watt VHO lamps. No problem getting a tan or burning skin around my lights, lol.

Steve how is your tank doing? Are you changing the lighting out?? Is the minibow no more?

My lighting is less than on most tanks 1/2 the size on here. I currently have 2 400 W MH and will be adding another 220 W T5 actinic/daylight combo

Wow... we hobbyists must make up half of CPL's business. Jim was mighty close to the 121,000 jiggawatts it takes to time travel. ;-) Doesnt the goverment investigate extreme usages of electricity? If so, were all on the list of "possible evil supervillans."

Only a measly 6-8 watts per gallon, but about 30 watts per square foot!

All in about a 100 square foot area:

215g tank = 3x400W 6.5K MH, 2x160W 72" VHO Actinic
140g tank = 2x250W 10K MH, 2x96W PC Actinic
60g FOWLR = 2x48W PCs
Fuge = 4x96W PCs
QT = 2x48W PCs
Frags = 175W 10K MH

That's about 3,000 Watts - But I can't keep my CPSB meter to stay on the wall!

Steve,

Was that a nuclear reactor I saw in your backyard? I think you mentioned something about making a trip to North Korea for supplies.

Gary

And the downside to all this ... My 10,000 BTU AC unit busted today, I bought a new 15,000 BTU unit, but need to rework things to make it fit and my 1HP chiller is sitting in the garage waiting to be installed! Sounds like a long evening & Sunday ... all so the CPSB meter can turn just a little bit FASTER!

Gary, do you have drawings for that Nuclear Reactor?

what does everyone do for the heat issues with the 400 watt bulbs

draven, you laugh... one of my friends had a shop up on 4th in austin, banks and banks of flourescent lighting to grow Venus Flytraps and other carnivorous plants. The cops had apparently walked by and seen 'green' through the window and thought something fishy was going on. I ran into one of them in the nearby gas station and he I guess knew I had been working in there (helping setup stuff) asked what we were doing in a 'welcome to the neighborhood' type of way... I told him and he laughed, told me that they thought was going on and just chuckled. I gave him a plant for his kids. Good protection. :)

My friend has a greenhouse and nursery going on Kirby Lane now, called Natural Elements. It's a pretty cool shop, exotic tropicals, carnivors, and pier one type goodies.

WOW this is an old thread! Just for the fun of it. I had a total of 760 watts when I had my 100 gallon.

Things have changed over the years now!! Who here has the least watts that supports SPS. LED is the name of the game!
