Leather's extendables?

I do not mean the polyps, but tonight I noticed that one of my toadstool leathers as well as my yellow umbrella leather having extended one long clear appendage from each. The appendage most resembled a scantily clad quill pen, was no thicker than a hair, and was at least 10-12" out from each leather. I noticed that when I touched it (while feeding) one retracted, so I tried touching the other one, and it did the same. Never noticed this before. Good, bad, normal?

Yes, I see them on my leathers also. I don't know what they are called but they are for feeding I presume. Kinda like fishing lines. I've never seen mention of them in any books.
