When a bulb gets old, not sure on the change though.

You'll get more algae with 10K's if nutrient levels and such are right for nuisance algaes. Sometimes people get a bloom and then it plays itself out. What type of algae?

When you change bulbs there is often a large increase in par value. There is huge difference going from old 20K to new 10K. I had the same thing happen when I went from 14K to 10K. The bulbs are not the culprit, the nutrients are. The increase in light output just increases the effect of the nutrients.

Your growth should go way up with the 10K bulbs. That's the problem with 20K, great color, but little gorwth. I would look at them as more of a supplement bulb, not a primary bulb. They serve the same purpose as the VHO actinics in my system.
