As most of you know, we are trying to resolve some lighting issues on our tank.
I have a question about mogul sockets.
Seems to me that I read somewhere that you can run 175's and 250's using the same socket (with different ballasts obviously) but for 400's, you need a different socket.
I can't remember where I saw this but what could possibly be the difference other than maybe wire gauge or potentially more insulating material on the socket itself?

Does anybody have an opinion on this?

The least expensive option that I can think of for now is to run a single 400 in my current hood until we can get some coin together to to do it right.

Thanks for any opinions.

Chris

Nope, same socket for a 400 also.
I've been running 400s and the sockets are not specific to any wattage.

Thanks brewercm.

I went to PFO's site and confirmed that their sockets are safe for 175-400.
Don't know why I didn't think about doing that before.
Thanks for your response.

Anybody have a 400wt PFO ballast to sell? Only interested in PFO since I won't need to re-wire my hood.
