I was wondering if there might be something wrong with my brittle star. He continues to keep losing legs and I was wondering if he was dying or what exactly was going on. Any input on this would be a great help. Should I leave him in the tank or take him out? What to do?

THanks

how old is the system? i have heard of this happening in immature systems. you should check your basic parameters, if they are all on then the star should regenerate its legs, but if it,s dropping legs on it's own that's not a good sign. also what type is it, and are there any others in the tank? i have actually seen green brittles attack and cunsume black brittles.

My tank is now 6 months old and is pretty stable. I put the star fish in the fuge since I thought he had eatin my pistol shirmp and days later found that it was not true. I had seen the molting of the pistol shrimps tail. I think that this star has just seen better days and this is not his. He is pretty large, so I beleive that he has been alive for awhile.
