eric borneman has what looks like a good recipe in his book"aquarium corals", i've been planning on trying it out, just need to get a food processor

I hit the seafood counter and oriental food rows. Get a little bit of any raw seafood at the counter and then pick up the seaweed. Blend it all together and spread it out on wax paper on a cookie sheet. Freeze it and cut it up into small cubes to feed.

so... is this for the fish, or the corals, or both?

Where do you go? Do you go to HEB or someother store?

Mostly fish, but both will eat it.

Do they have seaweed at HEB or do you go to some asian store?

I have heard they do, but I know they have it at asian stores. I still have a bunch of the dried kelp around here that I use.

What about some garlic? Can I throw some in too? Fresh garlic? How much?

Thanks,
Mike

It cant hurt, but you dont need alot. It would depend on how much you are making.

Be careful buying seafood from grocery stores. They frequently soak foods in Phosphate soln before selling to up the weight. This is harmless to people but can cause problems in reef tanks. WholeFoods had Phosphate free shrimp for about $25-30/lb if I remember correctly.

I picked up some fresh shrimp from the vietnamese store over on the east side of town. Cowfish and Royal Gamma ate that **** up like the world was gonna end. Even my two tangs nibbled on it.

I'll be blenderizing some shrimp, squid, krill, nori and octopus into a gooey mess tomorrow night and will let you know how well it works.

Anything that is fresh in the seafood dept, White fishes, mussels, clams, shrimp, nori, flying fish eggs (if I can find them), garlic. Then I put them in sand bags, mash them flat on a cookie sheet and freeze. I prefer Whole Foods Seafood because they do not purchase fish from farms, fish with issues, or fish with stuff sprayed on them. But I use HEB in a pinch.
