I had the winning bid for the 180 on ebay and I want to get it drilled. Hopefully I dont have to lug it all around town.

I know that Aquatic wherehouse does tank drilling...don't know the prices but I have heard that they are fair.

You want it done quickly go to aquatrend. They are located in the back of Forever Pets on Basse Rd near San Pedro. From 410 go down San Pedro to Basse Rd trun right. They are on the left and side. I had my tank drilled at Aquatrend for $20. Call Aquatic Warehouse before You go there. Only one of those guys does the drilling and if hes out of town You are out of luck.

Thad Zeigler glass drilled my first tank and cracked it. Aquatic Warehouse drilled the second tank and did a good job. I think AW was $20 a hole.

It's "aquatrends" on Basse, not "aquatech" just to make sure you don't get lost looking for the wrong place; I think there's a place in austin called aquatek or somthing similar. The guy who drills the tanks at aquatrends is good; but I would mark the EXACT spot you want the tank drilled with a sharpie, and be absolutely explicit about the size hole you want. If there's any chance of them getting confused, they'll do it. Best would be to make an appointment and watch the guy. He's the same guy who builds the tanks; doesn't speak much English but is a sharp guy. If you leave it to other employees or the owners of aquatrends to explain what you want done, could be trouble.

At aquatic warehouse the guy who drills the tanks is Tamer; he is also good at it, but somehow I seem to remember that he only has one size glass bit; if you want a different size hole he can't do it. It might be a big one, like for 1.5" bulkheads. Congrats on the 180, Pete!

I was thinking about how I want my new tank drilled. I may just go ahead and buy a bit and drill it myself. Four holes would pay for the bit.

The guy at aquatrends has a special jig which holds the bit and rests on the tank with telescoping legs. I guess this does a couple of things; it holds the drill in place without any chance of vibrations causing it to chip, and gravity pulls the bit through the tank so that the bit doesn't put any stress on the glass. It seems to work great. I know people routinely drill tanks witha hand held drill, but I'd be nervous.

the hole I got at AW was cut very sloppy. The bulkhead moves around. I wouldnt recommend them.

I take my tanks to AquaTrend. If you don't want to haul the tank around and live by the Medical Center, then you can drop it off at Alamo Aquatics and Aquatrend will pick it up from there.

Pete;

MAKE SURE they drill in the right place, mark my words!.........They'll do a good job with the actual drilling, but if you just say something like 4" from the top, 3" from the back, etc.. you might be "surprised" when you get your tank back.

if you need drilling Binswanger glass does a great job. Not the cheapest, but the guy who does them is great.

I have used both the Burnet Rd. & S. Lamar, the S. Lamar location had the best customer service. Burnet Rd. was very poor, I wont recommend them.

My original post had a story about them. Ah!

Good Luck! :-D
