I just purchased a 110 gallon aquarium and plan on transferring everything from my 55 to the 110. What is the best way, I plan on using the 55 as a sump. I have purchased extra cured live rock and sand and was wondering about any spike? Anyobdy ever do this successfully without losing a ton of stuff? Any help appreciated.

I just did what you are talking about last weekend. So far I haven't lost anything.

Here is what I did:

1. Lay down new sand in new tank.
2. Put old sand on top to seed new sand and hold it down.
3. Fill with water ( I mixed 5 gallons of salt water at a time... took 3 hours to complete )
4. Let run for a day or so.
5. Put in rock (rock and corals were in old tank water in rubber maids )
6. Pick up sticks
7. Enjoy

I'm currently slowing increasing the light going to the corals. I went from 200w to nearly 800w so I figured it was a good idea.

When breaking down your tank try and keep as much of the water as you can by not stirring it up too much. I used tupperware sweater boxes to hold my corals during the move. They are shallow so you can line up all your corals without using all of your clean tank water and they wont sting each other like if you use a bucket. Ive always done moves all in one night. Get the rock back in the tank setup kinda like you want it (even though you cant see) and set the corals so they wont fall over. Next day when it clears you can re-scape your tank.
