:o i love comming home from work to see my fan off and my temp at 89.6. everythinglooks ok, but will get a better look in the morning.

That's high!!! I second the ice bag treatment. In fact, I keep two 1/2 gallon plastic water bottles full & frozen in the freezer ... just in case!

Don't drop the temp too fast. Ice works, but be very careful, a rapid drop in temp can make you feel better but the animals can stress too much and die. I would bring it down over a couple hours. 89 is high, but I have had things survive up to 90 degrees. Fish will probably be the first fatalities.

Have you had the windows open and A/C off. That's happened to me in the past in the spring and fall. The house temp. may be OK, but with the windows open the humidity inside is higher and evaporative cooling by the tank slows down. An aquarium operates like a giant swamp cooler. The less evaporation, the less cooling. I have cranked up my fans since I shut down the AC. An AC unit acts as a dryer. It removes humidity from the air inside the house. The lower the humidity, the higher the evaporation rate.
