Do feather dusters ever mellow out?

Only if you have a copperband!

Yes, it can throw out the feathers if it's stressed. The worm itself should hopefully still be alive and will grow the feather and/or tube back if condition is right again.

It is super small, not like the ones at the lfs, he caught a ride on the rock. After a couple hours of fretting about it being Aiptasia, I realized what it was. I like it, I just feel bad everytime I go to look it goes back in the lil tube. But I just got the rock a week ago and all kinds of cool stuff is going on and I can not help going back and forth.
Thanks for the info!

It's still ok then. It's just hiding in it's tube to protect itself. That's normal.

They are very timid, any change in light will cause them to go it. This protects them from preditation. If a fish swims close to them they will pull in also. No worries, just don't add any butterfly fish and you'll keep it fine. Butterflys will eat them all.
