I have a question for all the seasoned plumbers out there.

when plumbing the suction end of pumps to a sump via bulkhead...is it okay for the pump itself to be a few feet away from the sump with a possible 90 or 45 in between?

the reason that I ask is that although I will have a closet for my skimmer and pumps I still will be putting the sump underneath the stand, so the will be a few feet from closet to sump.

thanks!

No problem, but try to minimize the number of turns in the pipe. You can also have a larger diameter pipe coming out of the sump with an adapter just before the suction inlet to the pump. The larger diameter provides more free flowing volume and also lets you add another pump to the pipe later if needed .... but you would need to stub out a "T" with a capped pipe for later expansion.

I could not agree more.
