not too many people going to have any of those. they need really cold water and probably tear up a tank pretty quick. :cry2: :cry2:

Cold water? These are not cold water ones.
I had one for a few years. In a number of different tanks as it got moved around.
It will dig holes under rocks to hide in.
It will sometimes kill some shrimp while they are molting.
They scavange mostly, but mine would come take food from my hand if it was VERY hungry (I liked to feed it with a long set of pinchers). Otherwise they scavange if your system has enough for it to eat.
They are neet, but I wouldn't get one again.
Heck, I would go a LONG time without remembering I even had one in my tank! They mostly hide, eat almost anything if they get hungry enough, and like to dig large burrows.

sorry on that post. i thought you were talking about those monster lobster like the ones you see in at an eatery. i think scoba steveo has one of those smaller lobsters in his 37 gal. guess i should have looked at the sit you gave before making a comment.

I have one, never see him. I know where he hangsout but cant see him through the rocks. Some say they are not good for a reef, might eat smaller fish. I have not had problems with him though. Real cool looking, when I do see him! :-D

Had one in my 30 gallon but then had various fish vanishing or their tails would be missing portions.
Lobster was suspect so I stuck him in his own little Eclipse tank and he's been doing fine in there

I would see mine when I got out the blue LED pen light at 2 am ;)
I don't think mine really attacked much, except the possible molting shrimp. But if something died, it was there eating it ASAP.

Same here, mine never shows up during the day. i can sometimes catch a glimps of him through the rocks. The couple of time I've seen him were when I rearranged the rocks. He is purple/redish. I once got a fully intact shell when he molted. That was the closes't I've seen him. No problems with reef though.

I have had mine for several years now. He even made the move with me from Austin. For about the first 6 months he would never come out. But I could see him between the rocks. I would put some krill on a pair of tweezers to feed him. But now he never hides. He has a day perch and a night perch. He sits in full view in both places. Every night when the lights go out he immediately runs over to his night perch. And them when I uncover the refugium light in the morning he runs back over to his day perch. It’s really funny. Now since he is out in the open at all times feeding him is much easier. I just drop a cube of formula one down to him and he runs over and grabs it. I have never had any problems with him eating anything but I would not advise anyone else to get one. Mine happens to be reef safe but that does not mean that they all are. That said, when he dies I will get another just because he is so freaking cool.

steve, how large is he now? I wonder if they hide when they are small and get more ballzy as they get older?

I do not know in inches, I guess about 3" to 4" but I do now that it hurts when he pinches you!

That's about the size of the one in my tank or a little bigger. Hopefully mine will start venturing out soon. I've had him for close to a year now and I've only seen him a handfull of times.
