feedback on how to place my fans in the hood???

First of all I think my hood is to short. I run two 250 watts MHs and they are only ten inches above the water. So I think I need to raise them, since it get to eighty four degrees.

Secondly, I have two four inch fans that I want to put in the hood and not sure on how to place them. Should I place one up and one down to create a downdraft or do I place them both down and blow air onto the water oooorrrrr do I put them both up to blow the hot air out and all the water as well??????

Thanks

I had thought that 8-10" was the "correct" height above the water.......also, the fans should cool your hood regardless of how far above the water the halides are. I am replacing my 250w moguls for 2 pendants to get them CLOSER to the water. Currently, they are 12" and there isnt enought light penetration.
