I got this majestic angle a couple of weeks ago. I noticed when I got him home that he had a small scratch on his side. Over time, it looks like the scratch is getting bigger, and white stuff is comming out of it. Also, his fins next to the scratch look worn out and he looks like he is trying to itch it.
My water parameters look fine (8-8.2PH, 0 amonia, 0 nitrites, 20ppm nitrates and 1.023 SG, 80 deg temp) I've been using malafix and primafix based on mike at austin aquariums recomendation, but it doesn't look like its helping. here are a couple of photos (this guy moves too fast for my macro zoom, so they are not the best quality):

What do you recomend for treatment?

At first glance I thought this was going to be a religous thread on account of the thread title! LOL
Sorry to hear about your fish... :-\

Hi Eleyan -
From the pictures, it might be ich. I would recommend ParaGuard by SeaChem. Its Fish, Filter, and invert safe... and I have used it with very good results! Its effective on ectoparasites (ie. ich, etc) as well external lesions (fungal/bacterial/viral) and contains no formalin, copper or methanol!
AA will order some for you, just let Mike know. Also, Kathy @ Gallery of Pets in Austin has been very helpful and even loaned me some when I had a very sick fish and my order wasn't in! An 8oz bottle runs about $8 at AA... which is not bad! Also, it can also be used in FW tanks if you have any of those. :)
I have a tiny bit left that you are welcome to have if you're interested... it might be a couple of days until it comes in (no one in Austin stocks the stuff, that I know of anyhow).
Anyhow... I hope this helps! A very gorgeous majestic btw...
DAB :)

DeAngelove, I don't see any white spots on the fish, what made you say its ich? I moved my UV sterilizer to this tank yesterday, and I'm running the diatome filter on it today, hopefully that will clean up any paresites, but the cut looks like it has some sort of infection. I'm not sure what kind of medication works for that type of things on angels?

here is another shot. you can see how bad the pectoral fins look. The weired thing is that the tail and dorsal fins look perfect. He is still looking helthy and eating.

From the earlier photos it looked like a white spot to me. The sterilizer and diatom filter are good ideas... but if it is an infection of some kind (fin rot, etc) I would still go with the ParaGuard. I can't say enough good things about this stuff... I have used it for treating ich as well as fin rot and other fish skin/scale ailments... without any bad side effects. I usually try to keep this stuff on hand, because you never know! If you have any questions... please feel free to pm or email me!
Anyhow...just my $0.02... hth :)
Regards,
Denise

It's not ick. I would just let it got. You already got UV going, that's the only thing I would do. Unless You want to try and catch him and put him in a QT. I would not recommend using any kind of chemical at random. Mardel has a very nice chart to diagnose fish deseases.

I got a closer look at the fin, and it looks like I bite mark on the top. He looks like he is holding his own with the other fish, but there are a couple of bad asses in there. There is a large velvet damsel, a tomato clown and a small puffer, also a coris wrass. It might me that someone is picking on him. I was in the process of transitioning these guys into my new 135G. I think I'll keep the damsel and clown in the fuge for a little bit, and move the other two fish to the big tank. That way, this guy will be the only one in this tank, and he can heal better.

Make sure it is getting plenty of vitamin C. That seems to help my fish out as well.

Ya that looks like what was on one of my chromis. When I added the marron clown, the purple tang started attacking just about anything that swam. That is when I noticed it on the Chromis. I let it go and the tang has stopped attacking everyone and it has gone away. No meds, just a UV running, and Vit.C.
Just my thoughts.
