tangs are very VERY territorial...watch them...the clown should be able to hold his own..again watch them..

My achilles used to do that when new animals were added. It lasted anywhere from a few hours to a couple of days of light picking after the initial. Just keep a close eye out if it's still getting to rough on the clown.

It is like no matter where the Clown goes in the tank the tang goes charging and the swipes him with his tail. The Clown has tears in his fins. I know these will grow back but I want to make sure this fighting will stop.

I hate fish that are this bad, but I've had them before (queen angel) and what I normally do is add more then one fish at a time that way there is more then one new fish. He still harasses them but the agression is split up and eventually stops since he can't beat up on both (if the tank is big enough).

I would consider doing some minor re-aquascaping of the tank, and possibly taking one of the fish out and putting in a quarantine tank for a while. If you did this with the tang, changed the tank up a little bit, and say, kept him in quarantine for a week or so, when you put him back in, he may not realize it is his hold territory, and will be less abusive, or, at the very least, it allows the clown to get comfortable enough to defend himself...

Do you have anemone? I bet if the clown went into the anemone and the tank followd him in to take a swipe, the tang would think twice about doing it again!

Ya, I have a RBTA and the clown loves it.......the tang won't come near him when he is in it....but when the RBTA purges or closes up the tank sees red.

that just sounds like a great excuse for a second RBTA. :)

I am an evil genius! :)

If my totally inadequate to the cause memory serves me correctly, the new Fin Addict store here in SA has several RBTA's that have been called "Awesome" by our members.

I took the Tang out and put him in a QT tank for a while....let the Clown settle in. I think I hurt the Tang's Ego or something cause when I put him back in the main tank, he is leaving well enough alone now. He really hasn't messed with the Clown in a couple days. I saw him dart at the clown one time and the clown gave the Tang a taste of his check spines, it is a lot calmer in my tank now! heheheh

and thank you EVERYONE that offered to take my fish off my hands, but all is well now. LOL
