my 2 cleaner shrimp hang around my long tenticle. i moved him a couple of times to get them away. i was afraid he would grab and eat them. yesterday the cleaners were actually on him picking all over him. i thought he would crab them up. i couldnt belive it.

I'll tell ya something werid. My tang has been itching (ick?) after I took the peppermint out, he has been hanging around my brittle star and trying to wave him in like with a cleaner shrimp. Well the starfish is now sratching him! I think its just feeling him and waiting for him to die, buts its very interesting to watch. I will have to search on google and see if anyone else has had this happen.

My two cleaners and my fire shrimp all hang all over my RBTA all day everyday.....I feed the RBTA and they get on him and try and take it away. I was worried at first but what can I we do......can't watch the tank 24/7 so I figure let nature be nature. If they get eaten, they won't have the guts to do that again, otherwise I just let it be. I tried for a while to keep them off of it but to no avail! My flame angel thinks he is a clown sometimes and will rub in the RBTA, the RBTA doesn't seem to mind any of them at all......I will just keep feeding the RBTA often hoping that he will leave my fish and shrimp alone.....sounds like a Long John Silvers dish....lol....

yano,
how bout instead of "waiting for him to die" you help your poor fish out!!! if he has ick treat him!
kjswift,
thats a crazy story, if it doesnt eat them then i wouldnt worry about it too much, mine stick around the fungia all the time cuz when i feed them the shrimp always like to pick the food from them, little bastards :P

I am not 'waiting for him to die' He has had ick before, I am waiting for parasites, as soon as they show up. Yet another painful freshwater dip (for both of us, I just hate watching him when he is in FW)

freshwater dip a saltwater fish? neverheard of such...is it safe?

freshwater dip, are good to kill off the parasites that can't handle the freshwater, the fish will be ok in there..for a little bit..i think it's a lot better to give a fish a freshwater dip just to be sure, rather then let it suffer...and u can also put medicine in the fw dip bath to help also..

go with hyposalinity
easier on the fish than a FW dip or copper
BA
Wed, 11th Aug 2004, 03:17 PM
u can try hyposalinity, but risk the ick stil spreading to others...

Well it took 45min, some nice deep scratches on the glass, removal of many pieces of rock, many clownfish bites, an anemone sting but I got him out and gave him a FW dip, looking much better now. I can really feel the pain from my CTS, ugh I am going to take a nap.

what?
If you take the fish out and put it in a QT tank how would it spread? this should be done because if you do a FW dip the fish will lose the ich on it but it is still in the tank and the fish that was infected will likely get it again. Hypo gives you the time you need to let the life cycle of the ich in the tank die off before you put the fish back into the display.

um, wow guys, i think kjswift would appreciate you all making a separate thread for yall's discussion dontcha think?
kjswift,
i dont think there is any real danger with your shrimp on the anemone, they might get eaten then again they probably wont but if you are really worried you can always feed the tank on the other side of the anemone to draw them over there and do that for a few days until they start hanging out over there instead, mine will be conditioned in about a week of wherever i feed.

I feed my tank on the same side every day and have sense it has been started and the RBTA is on the other side of the tank. My shrimp come over, eat, and go right back to where they were! LOL

Keith this is normal at my house. My cleaner hangs around the LTA. I thought this was odd, the pet store told me to keep them away from the anemone's. No luck that is were he stays. I feed, he comes out to the open to catch whatever food he can. I have seen him push the tanacles around with his whiskers.

Sorry about that kjswift, I seem to be a magnet for flamewars :D
Shrimps are pigs, hardly scavegers. When I had cleaner shrimp in my nano, he would beat all the fish to the top and took almost all the food. And he would steal the anemone's food.

getting close was scary, but getting on top of and picking him was a big eye opener! i thought the tenticle ends had like hoos to grab things. i dont know how he did it.

Mine has been doing the same things for weeks, every sense I got the RBTA from Tim and still got them all.....and they do it every day!
Maybe they have like a clown relationship that we just dont' know about????

lmao, what can i say, ive got "supermoderator" written in my dna, now all we gotta be worried about is if i actually get the position
i wonder if the shrimp are immune to the nemocysts on the anemones or not? anyone know for sure, id imagine the exoskeleton protects them like the slime coat on a clown fish.

Nope, sooner or later theres gonna be a new thread titled "My cleaner shrimp disappeared!" They are not ammune and the anemone will eventually dine on said shrimp if it continues to jack with it. Will the anemone eat whole krill??? My Peppermint shrimp tested my LTA once, thats all it took, now he avoids it like the plague,,..
