I am trying to decide what return pump I should get for my sump. It will be 10g going into a 10g tank. The water will be traveling between 3 and for feet up and maybe a couple feet over(havent got out the tape measure yet). I was thinking mag 5 on a SQWD with a ball valve. Is that going to be too much? Maybe one of the smaller mags. What other pumps would you guys recomend?

Thanks,
Mike

If you can go external, I would recommend the smaller pan world pumps. They make a pressure rated 300gph pump that would be perfect; they also have a really small one that's about 175 gph, but it's pressure rated, so it would deliver that flow in your set up. In my old 10 gal, which was drilled and plumbed to a 5 1/2 gal sump/refugium, I used a maxijet and it sucked. Every week I had to clean the thing or it would lose most of it's flow. Mags are a little stronger, but still basically a powerhead in disguise. You might also consider the eheim 1250 if you have to use a submerged pump.

Well I have found the PanWorld 30px at 258 gph and the PanWorld 40px at 480 gph. Matt, I could not find the 300 gph only these 2. I was thinking the 30px on a SQWD and a small power head in the tank. Sound good?

Thanks,

Sure, that would work great, although you could ditch the powerhead and go for the larger pan world. In a 10, you might find that the 30px is plenty of flow; that's the one I was thinking of. They're really good pumps, I use them on calcium reactors and skimmers.
