ok, i mentioned this on the b-ionic thread but i just got back from an in-tank expedition and i could FEEL the voltage! i felt it sting at the tips of my fingers, it wasnt terrible but it wasnt pleasant either. what to do about this instance??? its coming from my 96 watt pc bulb since whenever i turn it off my ph monitor works and i dont feel the sting.

nevermind, i just turned off the pc, i noticed my neon goby was going crazy and darting everywhere so when i turned it off he stopped, i guess it affects the fish more than i thought, its interesting because ive felt that sting for the past few months not knowing what it was and now everyone seems to have a problem :P oh well. problem solved.

Sounds like a grounding problem, run a wire from the reflector to the ground on an AC receptical and see if it goes away..

Also check for any salt creep on your light fixture.

Clean the pins on the light also if they look dirty.

I use grounding probes on all the tanks. They are like $15 bucks at Aquatek and IMO a must have.

well this isnt a diy light system, its a custom sea life fixture and all the wires are hidden inside the rubber cords so i cant get to any ground connections. its all good i guess, ive had them like this for a few months now and nothing seem to be going wrong just the new ph monitor doesnt like it :P

Make sure the monitor line is away from all wires, and you could cut a couple pieces of PVC pipe to raise the lights a little. Make sure there isn't moisture splashing on the lights and there isn't a moisture trail from any parts of the light to the water.

I have 6 ft Custom Sea Life pc also but my fish don't seem to react to it. My leathers, star polyps, brain and bubbles are dying! Mushrooms and trumpet coral as well as fish and inverts are doing great! Kh is thru the roof at 170!! Other than water changes what else do I need to do?
I am also wondering if the problem is stray voltage...the items that are dying are near a submersible pump on an undergravel filter - the items that are thriving are on the other side (135 gal)

Where's the best place to put a grounding probe? In the sump? In the tank? Both?

Java, you in Pflugerville? I think I may have a cheap extra laying around. Have to look though.
