i had a ich problem but it has almost gone away with a fish freshwater dip. then a week later i had a chromis die 1st, then bicolor blennie, mandarin, now my orange shoulder has brownish, dark patches, and eyes look cloudy. sail fin is still flawless though. none of the others that died showed any signs at all. any ideas what this is?

hey Kj, I did a quick search around on google, closest thing I could find that I could compare from verbal description, was marine velvet, however that is a parasitic infection, and you specifically mention cloudy eyes, which from my freshwater experience (sorry haven't had any sick slatwater fish yet) leads me to believe it is bacterial in nature.

I would say the first step, bar none, since you are allready losing fish, is to get it out of your display and into quarantine. If further diagnosis from more experienced members confirms bacteria, then I would say medicating it is in order... but I honestly can't tell... sorry... really wish I could help more.

Good luck.

Looks like poor water quality is contributing to toxic shock from something either in the water or near the tank and or aerosols in the home/office?

I agree with Larry, as usual. Whenever there is a disease outbreak, its usally a symptom of something else wrong in your tank. Water quality, or in my case, temperature. Any sort of stress can create an outbreak. My solution was pretty easy, I just cut back on my lights and going to an external pump until I can get a chiller.

This is usually the case with any sort of disease or pest outbreak. It doesn't matter whether its hair algae, cyano, flatworms, or Ich. It all comes down to water quality. These sort of diseases are usally present in a a dormant state in the tank. The stress resulting from a water quality issue causes a depressed immune system and the next thing you know you have sick fish.
