Hey guys, when I went down to port A (week after you did) I grabbed a piece of algae that was attatched to a rock, and threw it in the tank I setup for bringing back critters (Sadly, I had a big gash on my leg, so my wife didn't let me get to deep in the water to collect critters out around the jetty, she was worried about the flesh eating bacteria scare)

Anyhow, I haven't taken pictures yet, but I pretty much only saw three kinds of algae there and hoping someone could throw out the name of what I grabbed:

I DID NOT get the ugly brown stuff washing up all over the place on the beach.

(one down)

I did grab a sliver of a bright green type, looked like a ribbon, but doubt it will last, seems to be dissolving at home.

The one I am curious about, I think may be chaemataphora? it is a very dark green algae, dense, crisp, threadlike branches in Y's.

I'll try and snap a picture when I get home. I grabbed it on the stony shroe right off the backside of the marina over by the ferry boats.

seems to be doing well, and I don't even have bright light on the tank right now.

whats wrong with this stuff. i heard this stuff that is still floating in the water has all kinds of critters in it. if you have a net there is also small fish in it. probably need to go check it out for myself if i can find the time.

rocketeer, the red algae is Botryocladia sp, it has been pretty slow growing.

The green stuff looks like Turtle grass. Hard to tell from a pic. If the blades get wider, then that's probably what it is.

Did anyone get any Ulva (sea lettuce) from the jetties? Is so, I would like some for my refugium. Pods love it.

is that the stuff that looks like a bright green ribbon? I grabbed some, but it is not fairing well, I think that tank doesn't have good enough lighting.

I got 5 kinds of macro from our trip to Port A. The kind you have was not among them. If you can get a closeup picture of one of the 'branches' on the algae I can see if I can match it up in one of my marine plant books.

Gary - I got lots of ulva off the jetties - those cool little blennies like to hide in it.

Cool Mike,

Maybe I can get some from you the next time I'm in Austin. Pacific sells it as part of a pod breeding kit.

Sure thing - my tangs don't like it very much.
