View Full Version : Should I move my RBTA?

I received a rbta a couple of days ago that I ordered off of Ebay. This is the one I got: http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&rd=1&item=4315658091&ssPage Name=STRK:MEWN:IT
I had to leave it in the tank almost immediately after receiving it, because I had to run up to my mother-in-laws house for a couple of days. I was worried that it would get sucked into a powerhead while I was gone. Fortunately it was ok when I arrived... sort of. It's was not IN a powerhead, but it's ON a powerhead. I'm obviously worried about it. Should I immediately try to remove it from it's current position (on the powerhead, near the top right of the tank) and position it somewhere else less likely to chew it to bits? I don't want to have to pry it off and risk damaging it's foot, but I think I have to. On a second note, I'm very happy to report my homeless clowns have finally found a home (even if it is in a cramped corner on top of a powerhead).

Moonrs, Dont pry it off. Leave it attached & move it close to where you want it. ( move the whole pHead) Hopefully it will move off to a better spot.
I forgot to say make sure you unplug it....
Sounds like he clung to anything he could...HTH

Can you unplug the power head until it moves? I'd get a pre-filter for your power heads or switch to a close loop system.
RBTAs never seem to stop moving. Almost everyone who has had maintained one for a while has a story of one getting sucked into a power head.

You could unplug the power head, put ice in a zip lock bag and holding the powerhead up at the surface of the water apply the ice to the foot and it will let go. Or just wait it out. One of mine tucks itself in the rock work 4" away from where it returns to everyday after lights come on.

Well, I guess I'll try moving the powerhead and cross my fingers. :-\

I have PC's. Three 96watt bulbs (two 10K and one .03 actinic) in a 75 gallon tank. I Really don't have the money to upgrade my lights to something better, although I'm going to add at least one more bulb in a fourth slot in the next week or so (a 10K, I think, to make it brighter). By way of an update, I moved the power head a few hours after my last post. It turned out while I was waiting the rbta moved enough of it's body off of the powerhead that I was able move the powerhead and not disturb the rbta (too much). Now, almost 18 hours after moving the powerhead, the rbta is still hanging out in same area, but without the immediated danger it was in before. One of my clownfish has moved in but the other hasn't. It almost seems like the one in the anemone has claimed it and won't let the other one in, even though it's obvious it wants to come in too. Do clownfish of different species ever pair up? The clowns I have are one true and one false perc. Thanks for everyone's help. Moonrs.

When roses are happy they will not move. If you move it, you are asking for trouble! The rose will go were it likes it best and stay there. I have two bubbles that have not moved in over a year. The clowns may have something to do with them staying put...?? I would just get a good sponge and cover all your powerhead intakes, and don't worry.
