What kind/size/Flow Rate pump should I get for my return

Can you use a Pond pump from Home Depot?

are you going to be able to control the water flow in the fuge? try to build the fuge as one unit and the sump as another unit. that way you can control water flow to fuge and full pump flow to sump. water flow to fuge should be slow. i don't know about the home depot pump. they might genarate to much heat. i would go with a mag pump. maybe a 7 or 9

I am thinking about dumping the sump idea and just going with a fuge........how big of tank/pump should I use?

the bigger the better...what can u fit?

tank the biggest, pump wise peep have different opinions about flow in a fuge, some say fast some say slow, u'll just have to decide...i'd go with a slower flow myself tho...
