What does everyone try to keep their tanks at? Mine is usually kept at 75 degree's. My fish and softies seem to love it.

I aim for 78 but generally have to settle for 80 because that's where my tank likes to hold. I don't think either of my heaters has turned on for weeks. I've been told the slightly higher temp may be contributing to the minor hair algae outbreak we've got, so we might be putting a fan over the sump to help keep temps down.

I would like 78 but mine will max out at 80 everyday. Everyone seems to like it.

75 is too low for tropical reef tank. My tank peak at 84 in the evenning and 82 in AM. Coral grow much faster at higher temperature. There is different optimal tmeperature for different species of coral but around 80-82 would be much more reasonable peak temperature to aim for.

Agree 100% with Minh, lower temps tend to lean themselvs to Ich outbreaks when any minute stress is offered the tank inhabitants. 80-83/4 degrees IMO is a perfect reflection of a natural reef... Mine is 80 in the AM and 82 in the evening. And yes, my heaters do come on at night, I like it cool in my house..

As Minh stated, it all depends on what kind of corals and livestock you have. Some animals come from deeper waters where the temps are much cooler. Then others are collected from shallower, more tropical waters so they are used to warmer temps.

With what I have my house a/c set to and with the use of a chiller, I have been able to keep my tank at a steady 80 degrees all day/night. Now the think I wish I could adjust the most is my electic bill!
