I found this guy hiding in my macro algea in the tank. I think it is a star fish, but I can't tell if it is a serpent star or a bristle star.
It has little feeler looking things so I'm betting its a bristle star... would that be a bad thing?

It looks like one of those micro brittle stars. Put it back in, they don't get any bigger and are good detrivores.

Sounds good. I put him back in. I just wondered if I would have to go hunting for him. I guess he came in on some of Jim's rock because I never put him in.

I have hundreds in my tank and they are excellent little guys to have. That's actually a pretty good size one there.

That is probably the one thing that fascinates me the most about salt water... I never know what I'm going to find in my tank.

I used to have a ton of these and just as I was about to trap some to give to wkopplin, they all disappeared. Now I have a bunch of tiger striped ones that have about a 2 inch leg span and they seem to be breeding in my tank..

Are those the ones that the legs are vey hairy looking. If so I have some also but have never seen the bodies of them jus the legs sticking out.
I thought they were worms of some sort until one hitchhiked its way out of my tank when I sold a piece of coral and the person actually saw the whole thing.

Hmmm, these are like hairy legs that are alternating colors. I know they are some type of starfish and he told me he looked them up but I can't remember what they were called.

i have white ones, and black and whtie ones, the latter I only see the legs popping out of rocks... I would bet if you have one (especially that size) that if you look around, your gonna find a lot more!

I'd like to add some to my tanks. Any suggestions on where to get them?

Gary, I'll get a cup of sand from my tank and bring it into you one day this week if you want. Just PM me a good day to meet up.
