If he's plump because he's been eating, you're the exception to the rule, Linkias in general have a poor mortality rate in captivity to say the least. How long have you had it and how old is the tank its in? Im curious, Id love to have one but dont want to risk its life as an experiment.. Pete, can you put up a few more shots at different angles?

He has been in the tank for 6+ months and the tank has been up for @9 months, but is the same tank, rock and sand ect I had in SA.

I got it from roesmarineworld, but I asked for it and told him when it arrives leave it in the bag and I will come and get it. Its probably @ 4 inches. I acclimated it for @ 5 hrs, never touched it and it never saw air. I see it now and it goes to the top and will stick out now and again so I think the air is a myth.

My understanding is that if you lift them out of water with their mouth down, they gulp air and it causes an embolism. This applies to any echinoderm (cucumbers, sea apples, stars, & urchins). As I understand it, if they have to be lifted out of the water, you need to do it with them upside down, their mouth pointed up. This causes them to tightly close their mouth and prevents them from gulping air. Obviously, the best thing to do is not lift them out of water, if at all possible.
