It was suggested that I ask advice on drillable tanks...specifically brand names that can be drilled that are bought from Petco, Petsmart, and All-Glass brands. I was told from a reliable source that Oceanics & Natures View can have the sides drilled. I think most tanks have the tempered bottom but regular glass on the sides.

I can tell you from experience that the 55g that Walmart carries is ALL tempered glass, but the label on the tank only mentions the bottom. It shattered nicely at Binswinger glass.

Appreciate any advice.

Thanks,
Bonnie

Hi Bonnie. Basically, any glass can be drilled as long as it is NOT tempered. You may have to contact the builder directly to make sure, but most that I've seen have not been tempered.

Good Luck!

Thanks, I bought a tank from Amazonia and had it drilled successfully.

Bonnie, FYI - I have tanks ordered from Oceanic and they are drilling holes in the bottom for the overflow/return, and in the side glass panels for closed loop pumps.

There is a two week turn-around on Oceanics, so that's why I bought locally. I'm connecting the 55 to my 175 via a closed loop. That's why I wanted the holes drilled in the side.
