Filter Media

In reading the instructions on more than one site, nothing is mentioned about using more than one media at a time in the same reactor/filter. Is this possible using phos"X"/carbon?

I used rowaphos and carbon in the same canister. It worked okay, except next time I'd put the carbon on the bottom, the rowaphos on the top, and run the water bottom up. The rowaphos got really compacted in my canister and barely a trickle of water got through.

It worked ok ... as in you wouldnt do it again?

With filter sponge top and bottom a filter bag isnt needed and thats what I should have made clear. Can it be put in the canister without a sock ... together?
