Looking at running a dual squid setup on my 120. I'm thinking of a pump somewhere in the 2000-2500 gph range. Anyone have a good suggestion for an external pump. Bare in mind that noise and size are a consideration.

A mag 18 might do it. I have one and it's quite. I use it to run my skimmer on my 120.

I'm running a dual scwd setup on my 120 on a closed loop and I love it. I'm running a Mag 12 on it. My sump pump is a Rio 3100 and could be a little bigger. If you're ever in SA, feel free to stop by and compare the flow with your expectations.

Russel,
I am currently running a Mag 12 and 18 through two SWQD's closed loop on my 150. The flow is ok but I just ordered an ampmaster 3000 (3600gph) to replace them. I would reccomend you go with a big external pump for your closed loop because they use less juice, less heat exchange via the water and most are quieter then mags ran externally. The two externals I would reccommend if wanting alot of flow would be either adn ampmaster or a sequence. I went with the ampmaster becuase it has 1.5" inletsa and outlets where most of the low end sequnce pumps have 2" inlet with a 1.5" outlet and I only have a 1.5" bulkhead for the inlet. One important thing about these big centifigal pumps is you don't want to restrict the flow into it. If you are interested I will have the following for sale in a week, 8mo Mag12, 8mo Mag18 and new CSL T4 (1200gph and whisper quiet. I have done alot of pump research so give me a call if you want to talk.

I love my SQWD... though, I wonder if it can even handle an ampmaster? remember, the more powerful the pump, the faster it switches, I have my sqwd on a fiarly little pump, I would imagine on an ampmaster the little sucker would be going back and forth like a machine gun...

I have been running my SQWD on a Mag18 for over a year now without any problems. Remeber that the ampmaster will be going through two SQWD's plus I can always dial down the flow if needed. Better to have to much flow then not enough!

and, if i remember right, isn't sqwd coming out with a larger version of the sqwd, to work with larger plumbing i mean? I know i heard that somewhere, but I couldn't find any info on the scwd site.

I have a SCWD on my 58 running off a Mag5. I am very happy with it. I will probably add more flow to that tank at a later date.

I would not run an am3k on the squids. You will lose too much flow. These pumps do not like any restriction what so ever. On these pumps you will lose 40% of the flow when you go from a 1.5" to 1" line. A pump that can handle pressure would be better in my opinion.
