Bioload, what is that. Josh I would think you are nowhere near being maxed. If that is the case I have plans to change. 9 Fish Your good! I want like 25-30 Fish when I am done. If I am ever done.

Joshua,

I did some research on this question and came up with the following answer according to one of my reference books (The book of the Marine Aquarium by Nick Dakin). He recommends a maximum of 1 inch per 7.5 gal. in a reef aquarium. That comes out to 24 in. for a 180. So, it would seem that you are just about at the max. for your tank. Admittedly this is an older book, and came out before a lot of the modern filter technology like high efficiency protein skimmers came along.

For the record, he recommends 1 in. per 2.5 gal. for a FO tank. You've got me thinking now and I guess I need to go do some estimating of my fish sizes in my 125. I know I am pretty close to the max there as well.

Ehhh...inches just doesn't seem to be a good way to measure BioLoad. But that's just my opinion.

PeeJ,

I agree with you on inches, but what is the alternative? Taking your fish out and weighing them? As in most cases with this hobby, nothing is an exact science. I think how you feed, and to some degree the types of fish you have, are also a major determinging factors. For example, which creates more waste, a grouper or a tang of the same size? I, and most of the "gurus," would say the grouper does. That's why most predators aren't recommended for reef tanks. OK, that's my two cents worth.

1 purple tang
1 flame angel
1 clown goby
1 black stripped cardinal
1 six line wrasse
1 mandarin goby
2 false perc

125G with a undersize skimmer (AquaC urchin) but I have 9 clams that make up for the small skimmer.

According to Jim Norris and Barry @ clamsdirect.com, Calms help make up for a high bio load or a lack of a skimmer.

2 ocellaris clownfish
1 six line wrasse

In a 46 bowfront with an AquaC Remora Skimmer and a CPR Refugium.

I was going to get a Pygmy Angel from Sam. Would that be too much?

Great! Thanks for the response. I can't wait to get him.

Where's my fish Sam!?! Did my sticky note fall off the tank?

I think that will be the only fish I add for a while...

(I'm sure everyone says that about fish, corals, lights, tanks...)

Ok this is what I have in my tank

1-pork puffer - 4"
1-niger trigger - 4"
1-hippo tang - 3"
1-yellow tang - 3"
1-snowflake morray - about 12"
2-domino damsells that I can't remove from my tank!!!

yes this is what I have in my...well I really do not know what to call my tank because it started out as a FOWLR, then I started buying live rock from people who were selling their rock from established tanks that had beautiful life on it. well I couldn't let that stuff die so I had to buy a power compact then I really started to get hooked and now I have a semi-aggressive reef! ur something

belive it or not all of these fish and snails and hermits are living extreemly peacefully except for those evil domino damsells

even my puffer is fat and happy because I feed him several times a day ( very small mini feedings ) and including in the middle of the night...he is fairly nocturnal so I feed him when all of the lights are off except the moolights and he eats frozen krill out of my hand and even spits water at me when I move to slow!

the niger is really cool fish also...keep him happy and he plays in the currents all day instead of hunting

the tangs are great and very healthy too

the SFE is awesome but he does get excited when there is food in the water

those evil dominos are the only ones who bully other fish...don't worry there time will come somehow!

I know that some of these fish will outgrow my tank but there is always other plans in the works ( stay by the phone dan! )

I do have an excellent skimmer ( poseiden 2 ) pulls out a lot of nasty stuff
good flow ( about 1500 gph )

20% water changes a week!
all parameters great
amonia 0,nitrites 0, nitrates less than 10! ph 8.1 to 8.2 temp 80
one more thing...THANKS DAN FOR THE AWESOME SUMP/FUGE!

p.s. dont tell the trigger police about the niger in a 100g
