I noticed last night that my clown has about four black dots on one side of the body, and two on the other. The spots arent big, just about a millimeter or two. I tested the water and everything checks out good. The fish seems to be in good health eating and no change in behavior. Anyone know what this could be?
Thanks,
Mike

I have an interesting Black spot story on my clown. She is tank-raised and started to get black spots after I had her for about 6 months. I noticed she was hosting in a some orange zoanthids.
From what I have heard, others have had clowns hosting in zoos and would get black spots from the toxins. I took the colony of zoos out and moved it to another tank. Sure enough her spots cleared up in about a month. Interesting.
I now have 2 TR clowns in my 90 and the female is the 2 year old clown that use to get the black spots in my old nano. I put those same zoos in as well when I set it up about 8 months ago and sure enough she started hosting in them again. Now she has the black spots again. Silly fish.
The small clown started hosting in my green BTA and is slowly trying to convince the female to host there as well. She is a stubborn one though and refuses still.
I don't know if this is what you have, or if my theory is even true, but it is interesting none the less. BTW, my other clown has never had any black spots to this day and has been in the tank 4 months.
here is the best pic I could get real quick

Well it doesnt sound like black ich. The black spots are larger then what that site described. It looks like someone took a sharpee and made a few dots on its side. Maybe its the zoo theory. I did just add some zoos a week or two ago. I havent seen the clown hosting with the zoos but it could be. It always swims up to the front of the tank when I come close, begging for food. It seems healthy still so I guess I will just keep an eye on it and see what happens.
Thanks,
Mike

I wouldn't worry unless the fish acts strange, start rubbing, or breathing labored.

My clowns are like that now, too. One is black dotted on almost his entire bottom half... He hosts in zoos all of the time.

I had a bunch of black spots develop on my 2 ft. Koi, and about freaked. I have a UV running on that pond and never had any problems. These Japanese butterfly are probably worth between $300 and $800 each and believe me I was getting nervous. I drained the pond down low enough to catch them and found out it was just a few scales that had grown in a different color..... Could be our Saltwater fish do the same...

Thats interesting. Ive always liked koi ponds. I wonder if the apartment office would mind me building a pond on my balcony.

You can do small water features on a porch. Your welcome to as many plants as you can use. Beer is always a welcome trade...LOL.....
