I have a 110g long tank & stand that is sitting empty, and I have an idea but wanted to pass it buy you all first. I am thinking of setting this tank up half with my reef tank stuff and leave the other half open. I currently have a 37g reef tank with about 45# LR, 3" DSB, 3X65W PC's, shrooms, zoos, brains and cups, and Seaclone100 skimmer. I would put all the rock and corals and PC lighting on one side or corner of the tank, and just have sand and NO lighting on the other side. I am thinking this would make the tank more stable and allow me to have more fish because of the increased volume. I really dont want to add more high heat lighting because this is in a room upstairs in my house and it already gets super hot in there. Can any of you see any problems I would have with this, or any benefits I would have? thanks for you rhelp.

i saw a tank like that on RC, half was piled to the top w/ live rock in kinda of a volcano shape, so he could put his corals accoring to their lights requirements, then the other half of the tank was open for swimming fish...i thought it look very cool

I was going to do this in a 150g and try some gorgonians and sponges on the open end, just to add a little to the sand so it wasnt totally open... but I ended up selling the tank.
