If they arent going to keep live plants they can just go to about any LFS and buy a hood and flouresant light for it. For filtration I use an emporer 400 on my 55. I really like it. Hope this helps.

I have a 55 oceanic tank and stand with 2 aqua clear 300 filters and a flouresant light if he is interested. I'm looking for $150. I can throw in some yellow labs if he wants them.

i have been doing freshwater for many years, the cheapest light for a 30 gallon is to buy a 12" double tube fixture from home depot for 20 bucks... put sunlight bulbs in it, and go. Easy as pie. (Of course he would need a canopy for this.)

buying 2 of these, and putting sunlight/plant bulbs in is enough light to start growing aquatic plants.
