I was thinking about getting one of the coralife quadelite hoods to put over my nano cube. There is about 10 gallons total water volume, and the hood is 96w. Is this going to be over kill? If I do this should I go with an open top or should I have a piece of plexiglass to set over the top. If I go with this hood I should be able to use the sump in the back of this thing as a refugium, so Im thinking adding this hood will be a better idea then adding another pc under the current hood. If I do this I will also need suggestions on what to put in the refugium.
Thanks,
Mike

I've got a coralife 96W on my 10Gal Nano and it works great! Mine is an open top. I think it would heat up too much with a lid.

That would be awesome! You could do any coral you want then. I have some purple digitata under a 96 quad that is deep purple. It sits about 4 inches from the bulb.

Not overkill. I have a 400 watt MH on my 20l nano.

I guess there is no such thing as overkill on lighting. And if the water started to boil from the heat of the lights ya'll would just tell me I needed a chiller. LOL

The coralife quadpc comes with its own small plexiglass shield that covers the bulbs from any splash. I would get the legs for the unit and leave it open top. Souldn't get too hot that way.

I knew it came with the shield. I was more concerned about water evaporation, since its a small tank. I think I have decided to go ahead and leave it open and just top off twice a day instead of once.
Thanks,
Mike

What temp does your tank run at? How much water to you lose to evaporation? With the hood on my nano, right now I lose about a pint a day. There is a fan in the hood.

Sorry for the delay, I'm in New York this week. It evaporates about a cup or 2 of water per day. The temp runs at 80-82. I have the legs on it like brewercm explained.
It's been a great light.

It's not fun, I'm at my corporate HQ. It's nasty up here. I'm heading to South FL on Wed. Maybe that will be better.
We have 2 10 Gal Nano's at home one with 96 Watts and one with 36. The one with 96 is more stable than my 120Gal tank! Nothing has ever died in the 96watt tank.
