You should drain into the sump and skimmer/uv compartment, then go to the refugium(s) then to the return pump. An alternative would be to split the drain so that some goes to the refugiums, some to the main sump/skimmer section, and both of those meet up in a final space before the return pump. Dumping 3000 gph into a refugium with sand and caulerpa will NOT be pretty :-D

good point,so it's ok if the water goes through the UV and skimmer before the refugium???i thought i was better to have it the other way?first refegium then rest???maybe i'm mistaken, but if that that way it is i can easily put the baffle in the first sump and make the first half w/ all the extra stuffIuv, skimmer)thx matt, i hadn't thought of that

i have one return going to the fuge, with a ball valve for flow control. THe other drops into the sump. The right drain is actually a T with the bottom draining into the fuge, with the excess going to the sump compartment. I can effectively turn off flow to the fuge if needed. It seems to worwk well IMO, i dont know that I would change it.

Also for plumbing on the am3k, be sure to use atleast 1.5" pipe or you will lose tons of flow. I would also get rid of the check valves unless you plan on cleaning them on a regular basis. I also second Matt's advice.

I'd definately have the fuge after the UV, running any pods and stuff through your UV will probably kill them before they can get back to your main tank.
