Sam, two things I've learned about this coral - keep it on the sand bed and do not let it get any tears or rips - they succumb easily to infections. Haven't seen them take food like the short tentacle fungia so not sure what kind of nutritional needs it has.

I feed my LT plate the same time, and the same way I feed my anemones.

I fed her some chunks of shirimp this morning
and I think she eat some before the brittle star
swept over and sucked up everything in its path....
Do I have to worry about the brittle star or the LT plate getting hurt during this feeding frenzy ? ....
thanks for all the info thus far ...

I'd feed the brittle star and then put some food on your plate. (so to speak)

nice looking plate. do they need a lot of light? if they need to be on the floor of the tank you would think that they would'nt get enough light.

They are very light tolerant.

I have my plate on the bottom under VHO's and it does great. My plate is about the largest that I have ever seen.
Remember that you can overcome lack of light on some LPS, to some degree, by feeding. That's just a rule of thumb, do some research on every particular coral before purchasing one.

Hi,
I have a large plate in my tank about 14" in diameter when it is fully expanded. When they find a spot in the tank they stick with it. I tried scooting it over a few inches and it moved itself back. I feed mine shrimp. Good luck with the new addition. Is there a way to frag these?

I believe Mike (MikeP) has successfully fragged a plate (either intentionally or accidentally)
Thanks again for all the info ....

That was a regular fungia not a heliofungia. All the 'frags' are doing ok but I really would not attempt it with the helio - they do develop anthocauli I believe from time to time but I wouldn't induce fragging on those unless it was already dying.

The old bait and switch worked ….
Managed to divert the brittle star’s attention long enough
for the plate to swallow a large chunk of shrimp
the plate is actually more of a dome at the moment ….
life is good ....
all is well ....
