i think i have one in my small tank, it's small and hairy, brownish white color, anyone have a pic to compare?????what are the downsides to these??

everytime i try to catch this gorrila crab thing it goes under a rock i can't move....is there any downsides to having him in my reef???

from what i hear, gorilla crabs are just shy of being as bad a sa mantis.

not sure... I think I read on live aquaria that the guy who had them had to break down his tank to catch him. or at least find the rock he hides in. If I am not mistaken, one of the members here had a couple larger ones in their tank, and fed them to Instar's mantis shrimp.

ya i think it was joshua's tank, i'll just have to wait till he gets on.i just want to make sure what bad they will c/, and if i have to break down the tank, he's only in a 30 so it will be easy

Often the hitchhiker small brown hairy crabs eat acropora coral, skeleton and all at night. Once on the coral, it takes needle nose pliers and you will have take the coral out and kill them in place by crushing them as they are impossible to remove. Others split clams and kill fish and others eat only algae. Keep an eye on it for sure. Hairy rock crabs can get large and are carnivores. I usually get the hairy ones out and watch the hairless ones until they start killing things and then if they are that kind, out they come too. Easy to bait and catch in the evening.
