:x I was at the vet today ( for my cat ) and I noticed that there is a saltwater tank on display in the lobby. well what I saw was VERY DISTURBING...the tank ( I think either a 75g or maybe a 90g ) is not being taken care of at all. here is what I observed other than SERIOUS CLEANLINESS ISSUES:
1) evaporation of about 8 inches
2) a yellow tang ( I think ) that is so pale and thin that you can see right through it and ALL FINS BITTEN OFF, this fish is really suffering he just wiggles around the tank
3) a species of foxface with bad coloring and most fins chewed off also
4) even the damsells dont look good!
this what I noticed in about 5 min of waiting until I had to bring my cat to the doc. I didn't have a chance to go back due to having to leave through different door when the appointment was over THEN WANTED TO GET HOME AND POST THIS!
my question to you guys is
WHAT WOULD YOU DO?

I'm with Josh, I would send a nasty letter to the vet about it. A vet is supposed to know how to take care of animals and should know that if a person does not have the time or knowledge to take care of a certain animal, they shouldn't get it to begin with.
While a person may not think of a fishes life is as important as a dog or cat, they are actually more so as many are still taken from their natural habitats in the wild so we can keep them. I don't think dogs or cats will ever face the chance of becoming extinct, but many of our beautiful fish will.

I agree with the consensus. It's bad enough to see something like that in a dentist office or something, but inexcusable at a Vet. It would be much better for them to not have a tank running at all until they are able to keep it healthy.

I'd find another Vet. But I would still offer to help him.

Offer to perform services and get a break on your cat bills.

How funny, Ba. I would ask the guy what he wants for the tank. Its obvious you have no interest in it. Let me take it off your hands. If he is not interested let him know your thoughts & suggestions. Also let him know the feelings you have about his field of work, lack of compassion towards animals. Ask them about the other care for animals in the facility. Including your own!!! The things we see & feel for. ****.
