i live in south austin and have posted numerous times that i want about 5-10lbs. of live rock (fiji, tonga etc...)
if anyone in south austin has any to sell or is buying some, but an extra 10 lbs. and i will gladly pay for it. (the reason i ask is its hard to get to north austin with the price of gas and what not and thats a 30 minute drive for just 10 lbs. of rock it is just ot worth it
thank you

The grease in those Bar-B-Q sandwiches will kill you. But they taste good.
mhaynes01; I'd take TurboBrett up that offer. Tim's rock would be better than most you could get in this area.

In a 15 I'd get a Coralife 50/50 96watt fixture. My wife has in on her 10G and it works very well.

I would stick a 150W MH over it. It looks great on a 20 which is wider but shorter I believe.
because of the low prices MH are now you might save money in the long run with a MH.
I have a 24" 37 gallon with a 150W MH that you can see when you get the rock...

* If I went PC I would stick as many 32Ws as I could on it being 18" long. or maybe the 96W, I've never used one of those though.

Doesn't it get hot?
Brett Wilson
Fri, 28th May 2004, 01:29 PM
not with a fan on it.
I have a micro chiller if I ever want to let the place get over 78.
But at 78 all I need is my fan.
I evap about 1g a day.

I've got one of the Coralife 96watt Quad PCs over a 25 hex and it is great. Would also be great over a 10 or 18 nano. Last time I checked they were still under $100 from hellolights.

Around 76-78 in the summer. It's a No-Lid tank. It has 2 150 MH's on it.

thats a whole lot of evaporation if i lost that much in a day well that would be a lot of water coming out of my tank in one day.
what kind of trigger is you avatar?

I think you would be better off with a PC if you are new to the hobby, they are easier to work with considerably.

1 gallon out of a 20 gallon tank ( which probably has less than 20gallons actually in it ) sure does seem like a lot.

I loose about 2 gallons a day out of my 75. When you consider rock and sand it's probably only about 50 gallons of water. Tank ranges from 78 - 84 so evaporation and fan helps it stay cool. Two 400 watt Halides and two 110 VHOs.
On my 25 Hex with the 96 watt PC it only looses about a 1/4 gallon per day and maxes temp at 80.

I try to keep mine at a solid 80, no above no below, hence the evap. I also have a canopy with a fan which keeps heat from escaping.
My 40 with dual 400W pendants only lost a gallon a day as well and that is 800w worth of MH.

Brett, do youy have a pic of that 150 watt settup? Im considering one for my 12 gallon.

Brett, Are those the MH I got from you with that set.
By the way my evaporation rate is with 20K bulbs in them. I'm getting ready to go with the 10k and actinic VHO but will put a chiller on first, probably won't have a choice.
Didn't know if I told you or not but finally got that Mantis out of the main tank that was in the rock. He lives in my fuge and is cool to watch when he comes out.

Fri, 28th May 2004, 03:24 PM
Yeah, those are the same two I was talking about.
JimD, the only thing that looks different about the setup compared to any other MH setup is the size of the bulb; the 150W Iwasaki is a little smaller and has a medium base.
You are welcome to come see the light for yourself sometime. I wont be home this weekend though...
