I currently have a 28 gallon bow fron with a emperor 280, protein skimmer and power compact.

Of course I want to upgrade already. I was wondering if anyone had any sugesstions or comments on a tank.

I am looking at the 58 and 75 oceanic tanks. Any thoughts?

I'm pretty sure I'm going to get a 75, but which brand do I go with?

Take a look at the 72 bow front from oceanic... the bow front is a great feature, (as you probably already know)

A 90 gallon is not much more than a 75. I would move on up. If you put a large hood on, you will be happy you got the extra height

Careful with the 72 gallon bowfront. They are known to spring a leak. :o
I got a 125 for sale.

A good lfs would not sell you a bow front! I had one it leaked! There have been hundreds of these things leaking!. It's hard to clean the glass on the bows too.

btacker: Good point on the 90 vs 75. Always go bigger than you think you want. I had a 72 and was going with a 90, instead I went with a 120. Now it looks small.

I told my wife that the 125 would be as big as I ever wanted. That was until I saw Jim's 240. I have since been accused of being a liar.

She has since suggested that if I want a bigger tank that should check into whether Sea World will rent me a room.

wait a min, please stop the generalizing on bowfronts. There was a bad BATCH of 72 gal from Oceanic, and that doesnt make them all bad. I have a 175 bow and i LOVE it. It looks awesome, and im not even worried about it leaking.

It was only the 72Gal Bows. Mine was produced after the so called bad batch. It cost them a lot of money in my case because I had inquired about the leaks 2 months before mine busted.

I say we all go out and buy the 215 oceanic..... is there something wrong with me if I have that tank pic as my desktop?

I agree, if you are looking for a 75 or a 90, you might as well start looking for a 180-240 gallon tank. You'll eventually go to it anyways because it is much more stable and takes up only a little more space in comparison. I told my wife that I should be looking to upgrade soon because my 80 is small and I can get a 125 with stand for $100 !!! hehehe.

I figured that would be the response that I would get. That is pretty much what I wanted to here, but which brand should I get if I am going to buy the 90 gallon?

Thanks for everyones help...

Look, everyone's going to say get a bigger tank, but that doesn't mean you should do it. If you want a 75, get it! What you might want to ask yourself is what kind of tank inhabitants do you want? What kind of fish, corals, etc...

For a reef with a lot of stony corals that need strong water movement and light, the "double cube" shape or some variation on it is terrific. It's easy to light and circulate water, and the aquascaping is terrific on this shape tank. The main thing is that the height and width (front to back) are about the same. This means 15 gal (24X12X12), 45 breeder 36X18X16tall) 120 gal (48X24X24) etc... make really nice reef tanks. In this case, the 75 is probably better. If you're looking at a 48" tank, and you want bigger than the 75, I'd go to the 120 rather than the 90 (extra width rather than height) if you're wanting to build a reef.

As far as brands go, Oceanic is the standard; but you must buy their stand to get the 5 year warranty. Aqua trends build decent tanks; they're local, so if it leaks you can get it fixed pretty easily. Compare prices on those two and you can decide. I went with aquatrends because I already had a nice stand, and i did not want to pay oceanic prices without the warranty. Sure enough, my aquatrends tank had a problem, but they replaced the tank. It didn't cost me, but it was a REAL PITA to take everything out and get the new tank in there.
