Does anyone know of somebody that can build me an acrylic sump of a custom size?
Thanks, Joe

Anyone besides him? I have sent him two PM's and he has not responded. I get the impression he doesn't want to do it.

Okay. I have this 43 gallon tank I was trying to sell, but it looks like it is not going to. When I move I was thinking about having the back drilled for a sump so I don't have to have the hang-on crap anymore. It's more trouble than it's worth. I tried to go cheaper when I set the tank up by going hang-on.

BTW - If anyone has any ideas on overflows, sump, returns and/or a closed loop please let me know. I don't have any experience in this. I just know that I don't want a bunch of power heads in my tank anymore.

How big of a sump are you looking to do?

I don't know. Should I go with as much as I can fit in my stand? Inside dim. on my stand is about 22"w x 15"d x 24"t. I want to be able put a nice sized skimmer in, a heater and maybe leave some room for a small refugium. Oh and still leave room for a return pump.

I've built a few sumps, the latest a 100 gallon sump/refugium for Tina. (60" X 18" x 20") If Dan isn't available, I could probably build you something nice out of 3/8" cast acrylic (cyro GP). The stuff's not cheap, though. Dan's built hundreds of sumps and filters, so you might want to keep trying to get with him.
Are you talking about a sump for a 43 gallon tank, or using your 43 as a sump? If you're just draining a 43, you can use a smaller aquarium or even a decent quality plastic tub. You're not talking about that much water. As far as overflows/closed loops/etc.. just do a little research on reefcentral and look around at some tanks. You'll get some ideas. The calfo style overflow is terrific.

I'm talking about draining a 43 into a sump. CB Pets has a 30 cube draining into and I think it is a pretty nice set-up.
